Change of circumstances
Applicants are reminded that this Department must be notified if circumstances change and any answer given in the application form, or any information given in relation to the application, is no longer correct. The obligation to notify changes of circumstances extends up until the initial entry to Australia on the visas now granted.
Entitlement to English Language Tuition (2nd VAC English paid)
This application was approved after payment of a fee for English language training after arrival in Australia. Ms is therefore eligible for English language tuition in Australia through the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP). For more information about registering for English classes and the location of service providers refer to the AMEP information leaflet ‘Australia’s Adult Migrant English Program’ which has been sent to you by post with the payment receipt.
Please make sure that you retain the copy of the receipt for payment that has been returned to you as enrolment will not be possible without the receipt.
Incorrect information
Applicants are also reminded that this Department must be advised if, at any time, it is realised that any information given to this Department is incorrect. The obligation to notify incorrect information also extends up until the initial entry to Australia on the visas now granted.
Travel to Australia
Once granted a visa to enter Australia as a migrant, visa holders must make their own travel arrangements and pay their own airfares. However, there may be eligibility for a special reduced one-way economy fare, as well as a more generous baggage allowance.
These concessions, which may be available to prospective non-humanitarian applicants – outside of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland – through the International Organization for Migration (IOM), are the result of negotiations with a large number of international carriers on designated routes.
To receive more information on IOM concessional fares, baggage allowance and eligibility criteria, please do not hesitate to contact IOM at –

Leaving and returning to Australia
Any person wanting to travel, or remain outside of Australia for a period of time after 15 March 2011, and who is not an Australian citizen, must hold a current resident return visa to be able to return.
It is an individual’s responsibility to obtain a resident return visa after the current visa ceases. Specific criteria apply for the grant of a resident return visa. The criteria are designed to ensure that only permanent residents who have shown a genuine commitment to Australia, by either residing in Australia or otherwise making a sound contribution to Australia, may be eligible for a resident return visa.
Australian Citizenship
A person is usually eligible for Australian citizenship after having lived in Australia as a permanent resident for a total of two years in the five years immediately before the date of application for citizenship (including at least 12 months in the two years immediately before applying). Further information about Australian citizenship can be obtained after arrival in Australia from any office of this Department, or from the Citizenship Telephone Information Line on 131880.
Working in Australia
The visas allow all visa holders to work in Australia without any restriction from this Department. However, please be reminded that the visas provide no guarantee of employment in Australia, nor does the acceptance of any qualifications for migration purposes. Employment opportunities in some occupations are limited. Registration and licensing requirements for particular occupations vary between States and Territories and may be amended from time to time.
Social Security Payments
Now that the visas have been granted, it is important for applicants to consider the adequacy of their financial arrangements while looking for work. New migrants to Australia must wait two years before they can receive most social security income support payments.
Information on the waiting period is provided on Form 994i Settlement information for migrants to Australia which can be downloaded from
