Something I have noticed and brought out more prominent in the current events is this victim mentality many Chinese people have.
Does racism exist? Yes
Does racism exist on a regular basis? Most likely not, especially in the current society.
Are the ‘westerners’ out to get the chinese and push them down? Well… I’ll let you decide and only say that we all have our own experiences and opinions.
Lets take the media for example… When the Olympic flag/Tibetan issue was all the rage, an up roar caused unity in china which haven’t been seen in a long time.
Their mutual red dot of hatred? The western media of course.
Their accusations? The western media was out to get China as it always has tried to do, and using this as an excuse to reduce support and slow down progress of China. They have done wrongs to the Chinese people and as such must be attacked.
Media is out there to create sensationalism; their goal is to sell papers. The more passion they can garner with out crossing the line to crude, the more revenue they see. Should they be reprimanded for the wrong information they posted? Damn sure they should. But are they out to get China because of some deeply imbedded hatred of the Chinese people? God no! All you have to do is look to their reports of their presidential nominees and even their own president? Have you read their articles of criticism on the rest of the world they do not agree with? Have you read their articles on celebrities? If you think their report of the incident was bad, than you really need to read their latest Lindsey, Paris, Lily and Britney reports, where the stories contain more fiction than days of our lives.
The first line of racism we need to over come, are not their ‘oppressive’ westerns, or the bad reporting, but really ourselves. We have lassoed our selves into the pan of victim and played the card every chance we got. This whole mentality every time one wrong word is uttered against China is not only not helping our cause, but damaging our PR at a much faster rate than any overseas media could do. Whilst we sit in our chairs and essentially call Jihads on the world’s media, we fail to realise that we’re condemning our image as such to the world in words rather than bombs.
The faulty media report is not out there to oppress us, they are out there to show that the whole world has finally realised that China is waking up.
The boycotting of the Olympic Games should not matter to us, because we’re not doing this to appease the world, but to show our selves we’re capable.
The criticism placed on the rescue of the earth quake victims should not matter to us, because through it we united, and through it found that China still has a heart…
After all, if we’re doing this for anyone else other than ourselves, ain’t we then really the victim of politics and peer pressure?
